Top Trends For Window Upgrade In 2019

  • Modern Window Styles: Modern apartments get windows that are all glass and not too wide. However, they are ideal for letting the daylight in. The windows can be rectilinear or square, based on the homeowner or designer. The casement-styled windows without arches have taken over modern homes. This is not just for apartments but also for villas and cottage-styled homes.
  • Glass all the way: In 2019, we get to see more use of glass in the home designing process. The designers and homeowners have taken special care to use the glass everywhere for increasing daylight energy and even for bringing in style to the boring walls. Tempered and textured glasses with a slightly offbeat look are also in. Fiberglass and other such lightweight options are gaining fame because they are great for insulation property.
  • Minimal Frames: Where glass has come in for panes, the frames have become thinner. Less of the frame is a style, we see this year an increase of having an indoor viewing option. Moreover, the frames are of aluminum and have well-defined lines. There are no frills attached here, and this is a great addition to homes.
  • Dark Colored Frames in Trend: Yes, this is a notable aspect that today designers are going for the dark-colored frames even if they are minimal. The painted metal frames in contrast or darker shades are all appealing, and they are superior in style. People can also go for black frames to give the windows a rich texture and render a strong presence.
  • Eco-friendly Options: The homeowners are taking extra measures to go eco-friendly. They are using energy-efficient materials and specifically looking out for energy-savings certified materials. Daylight savings with sustainability is the motto they follow for their homes.

Window upgrade is now no more just a mindless improvisation to the existing windows. 2019 trends are surely more environment-friendly and stylish at the same time.

New Vs. Replacement Windows

What’s the difference between New Windows and Replacement Windows?

If you’re considering new or replacement windows for your home you may be wondering what the difference is. Really, there isn’t that much difference between the two options. It all depends on the type of window and whether you can leave the frame intact.

Wood window replacement

With wood windows, you have two basic options. If you are looking for a full replacement the existing window and frame will be removed and brought to the studs of the home. If the window sash or frame is intact then it is possible to put a new window insert without touching the frame. It is best to consider how large your window is because having an insert verse a whole new window and frame can leave you with less glass space.  If you replace the entire window and frame you will have more area of clear glass.

If the whole window frame is replaced the interior trim must be removed as well. It will not be reinstalled due to the damage that will happen during the removal process. If you have custom trim that you do not want to be replaced you should consider having windows installed as an insert rather than a full window replacement.

Vinyl or metal windows

With these types of windows you basically only have the option of full replacement. For vinyl and metal windows the entire frame and sash are removed down to the studs. Then after a new window with sash and trim are installed. Your home’s interior and exterior trim will have to be replaced during this process. The benefit is that if there are any issues with your trim, it can be fully replaced. Your home could have a whole new look and feel.

How To Keep Window Tracks on Sliding Doors Clean

Tips for cleaning your window tracks

One of the most daunting tasks of a homeowner can be keeping those sills and window tracks clean. Especially when it comes to sliding glass doors. We’ve all been there, the door won’t slide smoothly; the slider gets stuck. What a pain! While it’s not a fun job to clean, it can be easy if you follow these steps:

First of all, you need to gather your materials. Most of these items are already lying around your home!

  • Vacuum including brush attachment
  • Soft cleaning brush or toothbrush
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Sponge or cloth
  • Vinegar, dish soap and baking soda (optional-to enhance cleaning)

First use your vacuum to get the dirt out of the windowsill or slider track. This will give you a better base to clean with as well as suck up any bugs or other materials that may be there.

Next get your spray bottle ready. For a little extra oomph, you can add some vinegar or dish soap to the water in a spray bottle. You may want to sprinkle some baking soda on the window tracks or sill first to help remove the embedded dirt. However if your windowsill is made of wood you want to use very few chemicals and as little water as possible. Lucky for us Floridians most sliding glass doors are fiberglass or aluminum in material.

Once you have sprayed the windowsill take your sponge or cloth and wipe up the dirt. You may need to use a cotton ball or a Q-tip in the harder to reach corners. You should keep a bucket of clean water handy so that you can rinse out your dirty sponge from time to time.

Lastly, take a dry cloth and wipe the excess moisture away leaving a nice clean and shiny window sill.

In order to keep your windows looking great all the time be sure to clean them regularly and don’t allow too much build up.  For other tips on window maintenance as well as information on replacement windows contact the experts at Gulfside Windows, Doors and More.
